Mees maakt zich kenbaar!

Neuromovement in Doorn and De Glind Got Talent – Marianne asked Mees if he liked his wheelchair? No he doesn’t like it. Mees was clear. LL asked if he likes his electric wheelchair? Yes, he prefers this. Also clear.

*More on his wheelchair at the end.*

First session:

Good start bringing his head forward (controlling his head) when Marianne pulled his arms forward a bit.

Tired after 20 minutes.

Marianne put a small foam behind head to help with a better position. (He can keep this for now.)

She worked on upper body and arms with Mees.

Used squishy. Mees didn’t like how the squishy felt at first. He did enjoy when Marianne bounced his hands on it. She encouraged Mees to move his hands himself. He didn’t move his hands though.

Marianne then worked on Mees’s right hand and fingers.

Break moment!

Second session:

Practiced keeping his head center when Marianne pulled his upper body forward.

Asked Mees to close his mouth and used a mirror for him to look into. Mees looked in the mirror, but didn’t close his mouth. But Marianne has seen Mees really improve in not letting saliva fall out of his mouth.

Next, Mees practiced squeezing Marianne’s hand. Marianne remembered this meant something and believed it was to say yes. We checked with Janneke (from the last session she was at) and a squeeze was indeed Mees saying yes. Janneke has been working on this with Mees. She will ask a question and Mees will give a squeeze for yes and do nothing for no. She gives Mees time to react.

Then Janneke repeats the question to make sure it was indeed a yes. Marianne practiced this with Mees, a squeeze for yes. Mees took time and was processing. You could see this. And he did it! Marianne also tried to have Mees squeeze with his right hand to say yes and with his left hand to say no. Mees did well squeezing with his right hand, but his left hand was harder. Mees should continue to practice squeezing to say yes. Good for him to focus on the yes for now.

*Wheelchair notes!!*

Marianne says Mees’s chair is too small!

The middle of his back doesn’t touch the back of his chair. There is space. Only his head and lower back are in contact with the chair. His shoulders are too squished and the sides of his chair are going into his armpits.

Mees has no space. He’s grown and this chair doesn’t work for him anymore.

His head/neck can’t rest properly. The top part of head support is too far back. Pressure is on lower part of his head and this is not nice for Mees.

The seat of his chair is just big enough for Mees, but he still has no room to move.

*When Mees learns to use muscles, he needs to practice so he doesn’t forget. In his chair, he can’t move.

After NeuroMovement, Mees headed back to the Glind to see “Glind Got Talent” talent show “. He missed the beginning, but still got to see part of it.  He enjoyed the different performers and was listening and watching.

Back at the logeerhuis, Mees relaxed on the waterbed. It was busy with everyone in the living room and Mees enjoyed all the noise. After saying goodnight to everyone, it was time for Mees to also prep for bed. He was tired. Slaaplekker Mees! – Klik ‘read more’ voor meer foto’s  – Laura Lynne
